Daryth Velanor, called the Ashen Blade, was once a knight of unparalleled honor, serving the Radiant Order in their eternal quest to bring peace to the fractured kingdoms of Altharos. A prodigy with the sword and a paragon of virtue, Daryth was admired by his comrades and feared by his enemies. Yet even the brightest flame casts a shadow, and Daryth’s fate was sealed the day he accepted a mission that would lead him into the heart of darkness.

Sent to investigate rumors of a cursed artifact buried in the volcanic ruins of Maerath’s Spine, Daryth and his company discovered the weapon known as Umbraflame. This blackened sword pulsed with an unnatural heat, its blade etched with runes that seemed to shift and writhe. Though warned by the Order’s sages to destroy it, Daryth hesitated. In the heat of an ambush by shadowy marauders, he grasped the sword, desperate to save his men.

The sword’s power obliterated their enemies, but it came at a terrible cost. The fiery explosion that marked Daryth’s victory consumed his companions, reducing them to ash. Left alone amid the smoldering ruins, he heard the sword’s voice—a low, guttural murmur promising untold power in exchange for servitude. Bound to the blade by his guilt, Daryth became its unwilling wielder, his once-shining armor blackened by soot and his soul scarred by regret.

The title “Ashen Blade” was whispered by those who survived his wrath, for wherever Daryth walked, fire and ruin followed. Though he seeks redemption, the sword hungers for destruction, pushing him to acts of vengeance against those it deems worthy of punishment. The bats that circle him are drawn to the death he brings, their eerie cries heralding his arrival like an omen of calamity.
